Tonic and Lime is a boutique bartending service operated and owned by Amber Jaeger. She recognized that a wedding bartending company was needed in Northern Michigan. Look at this gorgeous example of her work.
Tell us a little about you, your family, etc…
I’m a Traverse City native with a passion for our local community & businesses. We just moved “in town” and we are already loving the accessibility of biking, walking and scootering to so many places! I live with my husband Ryan, who is a restaurant manager. We also have 2 dogs: Brecka & Bronco; both named after my other favorite place Colorado. Part of my love comes from having lived there!
How long have you been a mixologist?
I have been bartending for over 15 years, and have owned Tonic & Lime for 9 years. These days though, I am not often found behind the bar. I have never considered myself a mixologist because that term feels pretentious to me. Mostly, I help people curate an exceptional bar experience with approachable and delicious cocktails.
What is the most challenging part about being a mixologist for you?
There is no part of my job that is incredibly challenging. The part of this career that took awhile for me to hone in on was balancing service with amazing drinks. It’s important to the brand of Tonic and Lime to make exceptional multi-ingredient drinks while providing the fast-paced service.
Describe your wedding bartending style. How did you develop your style?
My wedding bartending style is approachable and practical. They may not be the jazziest words, but they are true to who we are. I love making beautiful cocktails, but they must first be tasty and reproducible within the wedding atmosphere.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day?
My favorite part of a wedding is when the couple finally gets a drink in their hands. They can feel the excitement of being married, but the stress and pressure of the day is gone.
Give us some advice for couples looking for a boutique bartending company.
We are professionals, and we are worth the investment. Everyone expects cocktails at a wedding and no one wants to wait a long time for them. The bar can be a hotspot for your event. Having experienced bartenders running it can make for a wonderful, smooth evening.
What are your best tips to help your wedding day go more smoothly?
The best advice I can give is to hire vendors that are professional, knowledgeable and experienced. Make sure you trust them to take care of you. Reputable vendors know what questions to ask, and are thinking of all of the things you won’t think about. We will set you up for success!
What are your best tips to help couples enjoy their wedding day?
The best way to thoroughly enjoy your day?: do you. What I mean is, don’t pick out signature cocktails if you don’t enjoy them. Don’t have cake if you don’t like it. This is your wedding day, and you make the rules. Don’t do anything just because you “should.” Instead, think about hosting a party you would want to attend. Use these ideas to plan an event that resembles YOU!
What have couples said about Tonic & Lime?
Couples always say we are a great investment. They say that I helped them every step of the way in regards to taking care of their guests at the bar. My bartenders are fun, fast, and they know what they are doing. As a result, they can handle problems, rowdy guests, and making sure folks get home safe. My clients also share that we are knowledgeable, flexible, helpful and responsive. It’s such an honor to be so appreciated by my couples.
Last, but not least, what was one of your favorite wedding memories?
My wedding. Does that make me sound self-centered? Well, it’s true. We hosted the best party we could and our guests still talk about it 4 years later <3 OK, besides my own, the first that comes to mind is…last summer, an over 200 person wedding (still happening in 2021) ended up with 30 on the beach, with family & friends stepping in to help with every aspect. They were barefoot on the beach, dining at picnic tables & dancing in the sand with no pretensions. There was so much love, light and pure joy felt that day.
