What is your venue’s history?
Castle Farms is a Charlevoix wedding venue but it was built in 1918. It started as a dairy farm for the acting CEO of the Sears and Roebuck company. Throughout the years the Castle has seen many different uses including a concert venue. Our current owner fell in love with the architecture and the Castle’s story. They brought this historical landmark back to life after many years of it sitting vacant.
What’s one of your favorite moments at one of your weddings?
My favorite moment in most weddings is that moment when the couple reaches each other at the alter. This is always such a sweet moment and at one wedding in particular it was made even sweeter by having the groom greet his bride-to-be’s daughter on bended knee. He shared a beautiful speech about joining their family and there was not a dry eye when he was done – including our staff!
What are your favorite design elements of your venue?
My favorite design element of our venue is the original stonework. The main building was built using field stone and was inspired by French, Normandy-style Castles.
How many people can this Charlevoix wedding venue space hold?
We have several different reception spaces that can be quite flexible in size, but the largest space we have available would seat close to 300 guests.
Is there a set schedule at Castle Farms?
We have structured our reservations to provide the best experience for couples and guests, so we do have a schedule for when the ceremony begins and when the evening comes to an end. The timeline for dinner, toasts, first dance, etc. is flexible for each couple.
Am I able to bring in my own vendors or do I have to choose from a list?
One of the things that couples love about the Castle (a Charlevoix wedding venue) is the flexibility on choosing the vendors that fit their style and budget! We have a great list of vendors we recommend, but our couples can choose who they want to work with.
What time are my vendors able to set up the day of the wedding?
Vendors are able to arrive for set-up as early as 10:00am on the day of the wedding.
Do you offer coordination and if so what does that entail?
We include a day of Venue Coordinator. They will work with the couple on the layout for the wedding, they will contact vendors a week prior to the event to advise on arrival times and drop off locations, they will organize the wedding party for the ceremony and coordinate with our other event staff on sound and directing guests.
Can couples bring on their own alcohol?
Castle Farms is unique in that we have our own label wine! For four of our reception spaces couples can purchase and bring in their own beer and liquor to complement our label wine. For weddings in our wine tasting room, 1918 Cellars, our label wine is the only type of alcohol permitted.
If I bring in my own caterer is there a kitchen available for them to use?
While we do not have a fully equipped kitchen, we do offer a catering prep area with counter space, industrial dishwashers, and walk-in coolers.
Is there a food and beverage minimum?
Castle Farms does not have an in-house caterer, so couples will be able to work with the caterer and bartending company that best suites their needs. Often couples see a significant savings by using an independent catering company. The freedom to bring in their own beer and liquor and use Castle Farms’ label wine also means a large savings on alcohol costs.
Do you have an inclement weather space for outdoor activities?
When it comes to outdoor ceremonies we do provide a sheltered location in case of inclement weather.
How many hours are included in renting the space?
Most often our reservations include 7 hours from the start to the end of the event.
Are there getting ready areas?
We provide one dressing room with your reservation and this is available to you beginning two hours prior to your ceremony. This is a great place to store personal belongings until you leave at the end of the night.
Do you have any overnight accommodations onsite?
Castle Farms does not have onsite accommodations but is located just under 3 miles from downtown Charlevoix that provides many hotel and home rental options.
